Herminium

Distribution:
The genus contains 49 species. It is distributed in the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere from England to Japan. Its center of distribution is the Himalayas. In Europe, only *Herminium monorchis* occurs.

Plant Description:
Herminium monorchis is a delicate orchid, growing up to 30 cm tall, with honey-scented flowers. Two leaves emerge in spring from the rather small, overwintering tubers. In May or June, the flower spike appears, bearing numerous small, greenish to yellowish flowers.

Cultivation:
Herminium monorchis' natural habitats are calcareous fens and nutrient-poor, wet to intermittently wet meadows. It occasionally colonizes not-too-dry patches of dry grassland. Easy to cultivate but not a strong competitor. Requires sufficient moisture in summer. Avoid waterlogging when growing in pots.

Wood fiber mixture with limed peat (Floraton 3 or similar commercial soils).
